The Madison Rotary Club, which hosts weekly morning meetings at the Madison Area YMCA, made a generous leadership donation to the Madison Area YMCA this spring, earning the Club membership in the Y’s new Triangle Society of leadership donors. The Rotary Club gift reflects its long-standing relationship with the Madison Y through which the two organizations share many common volunteers, community service projects and other resources.

“The Y greatly values the collaborative relationship it enjoys with the Madison Rotary Club, and we are deeply grateful for this leadership gift, which expands our capacity to welcome more low-income children and families into Y programs and membership,” said Madison Y CEO Diane Mann. “Together we are able to amplify our collective resources to make a much greater impact on strengthening our community.”

Rotary has committed to a gift of $4,000 per year for the next three years. The gift will help fund financial assistance for Y membership and program participation. The Madison Area Y Triangle Society, which is in its Charter Membership year, provides an opportunity for donors to deepen their ongoing relationships with the Y through their three-year commitments. The Board of the Madison Rotary Club approved a total $12,000 contribution to be made in $4,000 increments annually for the next three years to the Madison Area YMCA’s Annual Campaign.

Founded in 1923, the Madison Rotary Club mission is to improve the quality of life in the community and make an impact in areas of social need locally and globally. “Supporting the Madison Area YMCA through this significant donation makes great sense,” said Deborah Farrar Starker, VP of Madison Rotary. “Both organizations have a deep commitment to humanitarian service and work closely with community leaders uniting for the common good.” The Rotary Club of Madison is part of a local and global service organization that has undertaken fundraising efforts that provide college scholarships and charitable assistance to a wide variety of non-profit organizations in need. In addition to local projects, the Club also supports many international initiatives such as Gift of Life, Polio Plus and the Kopila Valley School in Nepal. One of the major accomplishments of Rotary International has been the work to eradicate polio in the world. Just recently, The World Health Organization certified that Southeast Asia has effectively eradicated polio. Much of the success of this program is due to the humanitarian and fundraising efforts of Rotary International. The Madison Area YMCA is a cause-driven charitable organization dedicated to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Madison Area YMCA offers enriching community wellness and health-enhancing programs such as a no-cost cancer survivors’ program; a 2014 community wellness initiative, an arthritis management program; and a community-wide child sexual abuse prevention program. The Madison Area YMCA offers a range of youth sports and youth leadership programs and enrichment classes; and a range of adult fitness and wellness programs at its Family Center. The Y also offers quality childcare, early childhood education, kindergarten and summer camps at its regionally renowned F.M. Kirby Children’s Center.
