ROSELLE PARK, NJ - Even the threat of a passing thunderstorm could not keep the large crowd of Roselle Park residents from attending the National Night Out festivities on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at the Herm Shaw Field adjacent to Roselle Park High School.

There were several inflatable rides for the children. Also on hand were the Roselle Park Police Department, EMT Services, and the volunteer Fire Rescue and First Aid Squads. They were there to hand out safety information to the children and their parents along with several demonstrations of their safety vehicles and equipment.

The event was held from 6:15 to 8 p.m. and was followed by a brilliant fireworks display which started a few minutes before 9 p.m.

Once again, DJ Ryan Angus volunteered his time to spin classic rock hits to keep the crown entertained.

The introduction of National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime," in 1984 began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighbors coming together to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Homeowners are encouraged to keep their front porch lights on.

Special thank you to Detective Richard Cocca of the Roselle Park Police Department and the numerous volunteers who put together the event.
