BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Roselle Catholic Girls Basketball team emerged with the win against Governor Livingston, 47-30, after an intense game of hustle and teamwork.

Interim Governor Livingston Varsity coach Robert Ritter remarked on the game, "Our girls are tough. We had it at 10 in the third quarter, and I'm proud as hell of them. The ball didn't bounce our way a little bit. RC is a good team- we are just going to get back to work tomorrow, and we will get hot when it's the right time."

Coming up with the jump ball to begin offensive momentum, the Roselle Catholic Lions quickly gained an advantage on the Highlanders 12-5 by the end of the first quarter.

Defense was strong and thorough on both ends of the court- immense patience was needed to find passes for advances to the basket. The lack of GL offensive rebounds in the post hindered their scoring opportunity, meanwhile Roselle Catholic dominated their offensive with layups from Dolapo Balogun (#4) finishing with 16 points, and Tori Pozsonyi (#32) with 14 points in the game.

Roselle Catholic maintained fluid ball movement in the second quarter, pulling up 23-12 to end the first half. GL maintained a strong ball control, aided by junior high scorer Sara Dilly, who finished with eight points for the Highlanders. Dilly's offensive patience coupled with ball handling between her and Hayley Berliner helped the Lady Highlanders get on the board.

By the beginning of third quarter, Roselle Catholic had doubled the Highlander's score, 25-12. Senior Jenny Pires contributed with a layup and Hayley Berliner hit a three to bring the Highlanders within ten of the Lions, 27-17. The score at the end of the third quarter was 33-23, GL still within ten.

Courtney Osieja contributed height to Governor Livingston's post throughout the third and fourth quarters, going 2-for-2 on foul shots and adding crucial layups to motivate the Highlanders.

Although Roselle Catholic maintained a considerable lead, the Highlanders refused to relent with their powerful defense and forced turnovers. Their press break in the end of the fourth quarter contributed to several offensive possessions, although it was difficult for the Highlanders to break RC's man-to-man defense and make shots.

Governor Livingston began to foul in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter, refusing to give up their potential for offense. Roselle Catholic rose to 47 points to end the game, GL trailing at 30.

The Highlanders face Jonathan Dayton this Friday, January 31st, away at Jonathan Dayton High School.
The Lions take on Plainfield on February 4th, at Plainfield.

Roselle Catholic: Dolapo Balogun (16); Tori Pozsonyi (14);  Allieyah Cubbage (10); Ashley Skrec (4); Jen McClave (3); Dani Vellucci (2).

GL: Hayley Berliner (8); Sara Dilly (8); Courtney Osieja (4); Katie Rielly (4); Jenny Pires (3); Lauren Soranno (3)
