Rona Wenik for BOE

I am an 18 year township resident and the current Vice President of the Millburn Board of Education, and I have served on the Board for the last 3/1/2 years. I came to Board service as an outgrowth of my long-standing and extensive volunteerism in the Millburn schools, including, among other things, serving as the co-President of the Middle School PTO and the co-President of the PTO Conference.
I am a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the Harvard Law School, and served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice for over 5 years, prosecuting, among other things, large-scale international narcotics cases, including the ring responsible for the largest ever importation of cocaine into the United States. I am currently the chair of the Board's Program and Personnel Committees, and also sit on the Property, Policy and Special Education committees. I am proud to serve as a member of the Millburn BOE, and throughout my term I have striven to maintain the excellence that is the hallmark of the Millburn School District, while working within a tight and limited budget.
During the course of the 1 year term, the Board will need to renegotiate a fair and fiscally responsible contract with our teachers, continue to proceed with the Strategic Plan, oversee the implementation of the new teacher evaluation system and evaluate the potential need for extensive building renovations or construction for our aging facilities, all within a challenging budget environment.
I am particularly well-suited to fill this 1 year term, as I am an adult professional who already has an extensive working knowledge of Millburn schools and BOE operations and has a collaborative and effective working relationship with my fellow Board members and our Administration. I have dedicated my time over the last 3 1/2 years to ensure that Millburn students are exposed to a challenging and rich broad-based curriculum from excellent teachers in a safe and comfortable learning environment.
I would be honored to be re-elected and to continue to serve the Millburn community and to care for our most valuable assets--our children and their schools.
