SPARTA, NJ- Due to the numerous strong snow storms this region had experienced already this winter season, the Sparta Township Department of Public Works is experiencing a shortage road salt. Until the salt inventory can be replenished, roads will be prioritized as far as to how much product is to be utilized.

The Sparta Police Department is also urging all motorists to always travel at a safe and prudent speed regardless of weather conditions and the amount of road salt and grit that is used.  Police are also asking parents to keep a close eye on their children when playing outside in the snow.

Children should never play near or on snow covered roadways especially when snow removal operations are in progress. Flying pieces of gravel and debris hurled by snow plows and snow blowers engaged in snow removal can seriously injure your child or pet.
