TRENTON, New Jersey Department of Transportation officials on Tuesday announced a series of upcoming lane closures on Interstate 80 eastbound this week between Exit 57 (Route 19) and Exit 64 (Polify Road) for roadway joint sealing work.

As a moving operation, NJDOT is scheduled to utilize single and double-lane closures on I-80 eastbound Local lanes at different locations within the work zone between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning on Wednesday, February 8, and Thursday, February 9.  Lane closures will also be utilized to complete the work on Sunday, February 12 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.  One travel-lane will be maintained at all times in the Local lanes.

This work will also require the full closure of the I-80 eastbound Express lanes, between mileposts 62.2 and 65.5, during the same hours on Friday night, February 10 and on Sunday, if needed.  All three Local lanes will be maintained during the Express lane closures.

The purpose of joint sealing is to help reduce the amount of moisture that can infiltrate the roadway surface and potentially cause deterioration.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are also encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information websitewww.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
