LIVINGSTON, NJ – When British Pop band Rixton made their U.S. debut in March, their single, Me and My Broken Heart, quickly topped the charts. Liking the band, Livingston High School’s (LHS) Do Something Club entered the band’s Z100NY sweepstakes, winning a free concert at the high school on Friday, May 30.

According to LHS Do Something president Samantha Spencer, club member Vihan Khanna entered the club into the sweepstakes, which were affiliated with DoSomething.org, Z100NY and Rixton. Principal Marc Stern made the winning announcement on Friday, March 23, by playing their smash hit over the loud speaker.

“I was completely shocked and immediately contacted my advisor, Ms. Joanna Drake to start planning the event,” Spencer said. “Luckily, the administration at LHS is incredible and really took the reins in making this concert possible in a week's time.”

Spencer said her goal as president is to make every meeting meaningful to each member by actively doing social action. Throughout the year, they participate in DoSomething.org campaigns, such as: card making, collecting peanut butter and jelly and spreading confidence within the school.

Part of the school’s agreement with Rixton was to do something fun for the student body that would simultaneously benefit the entire community. In order to make that happen, the participating students brought canned goods to the concert to be donated to the Community Outreach Warehouse, and ultimately to those less fortunate in the immediate community.

“This event was a huge success and has received great feedback from the student body at Livingston High School,” Spencer said. “My main goal from this event was for people to have a good time, while doing social good.”

The exclusive concert was held immediately following the school day, at 4 p.m. in the new LHS Health and Wellness center. With more than 200 students in attendance, the club’s mission to provide a fun and giving experience for the students met its goal.

“As Rixton becomes a more well-known band, we are so lucky to say that they performed at our high school,” freshman Erica Bushwell said. “It’s cool to have been to a private concert like that.”

Consisting of band members Jake Roche, Danny Wilkin, Lewi Morgan and Charley Bagnall, Rixton developed their own brand of songwriting, instrumentation and vocal harmonies that makes their sound a pleasant mixture of Pop, Rock and R&B. They started gaining a following via YouTube and then Grammy-winning producer Benny Blanco and talent manager Scooter Braun caught wind of their sound and signed them. With a tour on the way, Rixton is set to deliver its debut album later this year.

On Thursday, Rixton won its very first Gold Plaque for selling over 500,000 copies of their single, Me and My Broken Heart, after performing on the Today Show. During the Today Show, Rixton announced that their tour is set to begin on July 30, with tickets available starting June 3.

“This (concert) will definitely inspire the club to set our goals higher and reach out beyond the horizon of LHS,” Spencer said. “Most importantly, I want to give a huge thank you to Mr. Stern, Ms. Drake, the Livingston High School Administration, the Livingston High School Staff, Rixton, Z100NewYork, DoSomething.org, and everyone who attended the concert.”
