WEST ORANGE, NJ - Dustin Friedland, 30, the victim killed in a carjacking at the Short Hills Mall this week, was laid to rest today as police awaited forensic reports from Friedland's recovered Range Rover, and the reward money for information leading to the arrest of his killers grew to $41,000.

On the evening of Dec. 15 around 9:50 p.m., Dustin Friedland and his wife left the Short Hills Mall and headed to their vehicle parked on the third level of the parking garage. Friedland's wife, Jamie, 27, had already entered the vehicle when two unknown black males approached Friedland to carjack their 2012 Range Rover. Friedland, knowing his wife was in the car, fought with the assailants and was shot in the head. He was taken to Morristown Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by 11 p.m. His wife was unharmed.

The vehicle was recovered on Mon., Dec. 16 in Newark, but no break has yet been made in the case. Police hope that forensic reports on the vehicle will provide information.

In the meantime, The Taubman company, owners of the Mall at Short Hills, has offered $20,000 for information leading to the capture of the killers; Essex County Sheriff's Office Crimestoppers Program has offered $20,000; and the Morris County Sheriff’s CrimeStoppers program offered $1,000, for a current total of $41,000 in reward money.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office at 973-621-4586 or the Essex County Sheriff's Office Crimestoppers line at (973) 877-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
