MADISON, NJ – Friends, faculty and supporters gathered at Madison High School on Tuesday to honor teachers who are retiring or being recognized as Teacher of the Year among the three elementary schools, the middle school and the high school.

Three retiring teachers were praised for their dedication, encouraging new trends in education and inspiration to students.

Kim Arthur was recognized for her impact as school psychologist. She attended the University of Exeter in England and went on to study psychology at Seton Hall University. She took a leave of absence from Madison to work with the Navajos in Arizona in an impoverished area.

Madison High School Principal George Robertson noted Paul Muller has spent 41 years in the Madison school system and had served in the Army, bringing real world experience to his position.

Anna Berra was named Teacher of the Year for Central Avenue School. Victoria Kohler was Teacher of the Year for Kings Road School and Kathleen Wallace for Torey J. Sabatini School. Principal Michael Post noted that Wallace had studied opera at the New England Conservatory and still gives piano and guitar lessons. She also plays with Sunny Side Jazz. She has been “our technology guru,” he said and developed the Butterfly Garden through a foundation grant.

Eric Lee was named Teacher of the Year at Madison Junior School and Kathleen Berger at Madison High School.

The Board of Education approved a number of appointments, textbook purchases and transportation agreements. Contracts were approved for roof restoration in the high school's main gym and wrestling room; paving projects adjacent to the upper soccer field and card access and camera systems.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24.
