Research Chemist Talks about Drug Discovery at Old Guard Meeting

Alan Cooper will speak at Summit Old Guard at January 29th meeting about his work as a research chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. He will give a high level view of the complex process of bringing a drug to market. The presentation will focus on how drugs are discovered, developed and tested in clinical trials before becoming eligible as consumer drugs.
Alan Cooper, PhD, has been a medicinal chemistry leader with over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (Schering-Plough Research Institute & Merck Research) specializing in anti-infectives and oncology drug discovery. He has participated in the discovery of several antibiotics and oncology agents and has led oncology programs to clinical trials. All area 50-plus active men are invited to attend meetings of the Summit Area Old Guard on Tuesday mornings at the New Providence Municipal Center at 360 Elkwood Avenue. A coffee hour starts at 9:15 that is followed by a 10 AM short business meeting. Old Guard members participate in sports, bridge, hikes, trips, plays, concerts and cultural events.
