Remember your Valentine this Holiday

Friends! Atlantic City is alive and well with many entretaining events taking place.

As an example, The Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority will host the 6th annual Valentine’s Day Group Wedding, Vow Renewal and Civil Union Ceremony at historic Boardwalk Hall on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 2 p.m.

“Over 200 couples have celebrated their special day with us on Valentine’s Day over the past 5 years,” said Jeff Vasser, president of the ACCVA. “Couples return again each year to renew this special tie with each other and with Atlantic City.”

The ceremony is free for all couples and their guests, and will be performed in the Ballroom in Boardwalk Hall at 2 p.m.  The event will include a champagne toast, wedding cake and photo opportunities. Jeff George, entrepreneur, Cruisn’ One captain and wedding officiant, will perform the non-denominational ceremony.  Captain Jeff is new to our group ceremony and we look forward to another successful event with him at the helm.

Couples must pre-register for the Group Wedding event at Boardwalk Hall through the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority’s official website at www.atlanticcitynj.com/group_tours/atlantic_city_group_wedding.aspx  beginning Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Couples should register by Sunday, February 10, 2013.  The website features event information and special hotel rates and packages will be available for couples and their guests.  All couples interested in getting married or united at the event must obtain their own marriage or civil union license.  Couples must have a New Jersey license to get married in this ceremony. Couples can call their local vital statistics department for complete details.  There is a three-day waiting period in the state of New Jersey for a marriage license.  Vow Renewals do not need licenses. Sunidhi Chauhan and Ali Zafar, two of Bolllywood’s most prolific stars, will team up for their first time in Atlantic City and perform for one night only, Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Revel’s Ovation Hall.

Sunidhi Chauhan won Filmfare Awards in 2001, 2007 and 2011, IIFA Awards in 2005 and 2007, Star Screen Awards in 2004 and 2007, Zee Cine Awards in 2005 and many other honors.  A well-established playback singer, Sunidhi started her career from a very young age and has crooned innumerable Bollywood songs to date.  Some of her memorable tracks in Bollywood include; Beedi Jalai Le (Omkara), Bhaage Re Mann (Chameli), and the most recent hit Sheila Ki Jawani (Tees Mar Khan). Along with Bollywood she has sang in Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Tamil and Assamese languages. At present, she has recorded about 2,500 tracks.  Sunidhi has made her foray into television judging the participants in the reality show Indian Idol, Season 5 and Season 6 alongside Anu Malik.  Sunidhi Chauhan is known as one of the leading playback singers of Bollywood.

Ali Zafar is a multi-talented Pakistani musician, composer, songwriter, singer, painter, model and actor. Zafar made his Bollywood debut in 2010 film Tere Bin Laden and is now more popular for his music and as a singer. Before making his mark in the Pakistani music industry, he worked as model in several commercial advertisements and acted in some television shows. Zafar’s role in Tere Bin Laden won him a Filmfare nomination. Ali Zafar was next seen in 2011 in Yash Raj Films’ Mere Brother Ki Dulhan co-starring Imran khan and Katrina Kaif.  Zafar will be seen in the upcoming film London Paris New York opposite Aditi Rao Hydari. He has also composed the music for this film.

The fourth annual 'At the Shore Wine Tasting Art Show' on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Atlantic City Country Club in Northfield will feature a tasting selection of white and red wines from Gallo Wines to complement hors d'oeuvres, the works of local artists and music.The event will feature the following Gallo wines; descriptions are available at www.gallo.com:

It is organized by the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority Foundation (ACCVAF) and the Greater Atlantic City Concierge Association (GACCA) to fund scholarships for students majoring in the hospitality curriculum at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, Atlantic Cape Community College and Fairleigh Dickenson University. To date, they have provided 15 scholarships.

The Stockton Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA) will present “Now Hear This,” a free informational seminar on hearing loss and free hearing screenings on Tuesday, February 12, 2013.  The screenings and seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Absecon Community Center for Seniors, which meets in the Great Hall of the United Methodist Church, located at 100 Pitney Road, Absecon. 

Marjorie Taylor, Stockton assistant professor of speech pathology and audiology and SCOSA research fellow, will share her knowledge and upcoming research plans.  One in three people older than 60, and half of those older than 85 have hearing loss, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. 

Dr. David Burdick, director of SCOSA, said, “We hope that this opportunity reaches area older adults, especially those who are unable to pay for services or who do not fully understanding the ailment and its treatment options.”
