LIVINGSTON, NJ - On Feb 27 2013, Regal Bank of Livingston donated $1,000 to to the West Essex YMCA’s yearly Strong Kids Campaign. “We’re happy to help for the Kids Campaign, which in turn makes an impact in our community” said Monte Ehrenkranz, Vice President of Regal Bank.
The YMCA’s six week Strong Kids Campaign runs once a year and will be coming to a close on March 11 2013. “It’s an opportunity for us to educate our community about how much the YMCA actually does for the growth and development of its citizens. Many people think of the Y as a gym with an indoor swimming pool – it’s just there, like wallpaper. This is our chance to remind everyone that it is so much more,” said Bonnie Granatir, Chair of the 2013 Strong Kids Campaign. “The West Essex Y never turns anyone away due to financial need. The money raised through Strong Kids will be used to keep a variety of programs running and to ensure that the Y remains affordable to all.”
Last year the West Essex Y was able to provide $184,700 in scholarships which served 1,085 people. The Y also provides free use of its facilities to several local organizations such as the Friday night teen program, the Livingston and West Essex High Schools’ swim teams, Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and the Livingston Advisory Committee for Disabilities.
Some of the programs offered at the West Essex Y include daycare, pre-school, and after-school programs, free membership for 7thgrade students and families of armed services personnel, babysitting and lifeguarding certifications, on and off site senior programs, health education for diabetes, Parkinson’s care, child sexual-abuse prevention, and free facilities for Special Olympics and special needs sports programs.
The Metro YMCA has branches in Livingston, East Orange, Maplewood, Hardyston, Wayne, and Newton. For more information on the Strong Kids campaign visit www.metroymcas.org.
