Randolph's Lea Sevola Awarded Mayo Performing Arts Music Student of The Month For April

MORRISTOWN, NJ - Students from schools based in Morristown, Florham Park, Madison, Rockaway, Budd Lake, Chatham, Mendham, Randolph, Kinnelon, and Parsippany, were honored as Mayo Performing Arts Center Music Students of the Month – Outstanding Vocalists -- prior to the Saturday, April 14 performance of Broadway Showstoppers.
The students were recognized for their achievements on stage prior to the concert. Jane Kurek, Executive Director, The Provident Bank Foundation, presented the students with certificates honoring their achievements. The students had the opportunity to meet three Broadway performers – Carolee Carmello, Kissy Simmons and Mandy Gonzalez.
Students were nominated by their teachers and were chosen by the Theatre's Education Department based on their commitment to and excellence in the performing arts. The Theatre will honor a group of students every month throughout the season and invites area teachers to nominate students for this honor. Students will be invited to perform at a year-end recital in June.
The 2013-2014 Music Student of the Month program is sponsored by The Provident Bank Foundation.
Lea Sevola, senior member of the Randolph High School Chorus, was chosen as a Music Student of the Month by the Mayo Performing Arts Center.
Sevola has been a choral student for eight years. She is now the President of Choirs at RHS and participates actively in music in the community. A classically trained vocalist, Sevola has experience in classical voice as well as musical theatre. She enjoys singing daily in concert choir, training weekly with chamber choir, and learning as much as she can in her music theory class. Lea plans to major in musical theatre in college and to pursue a career in the performing arts.
