RANDOLPH, NJ - The Parks Advisory Committee met this past Tuesday to discuss the old and new work being done around town facilities.

The committee has been hard at work getting various repairs done. The town’s little league fields were recently done in preparation for the all-star games. The clay buildup between the grass and dirt was fixed, which eliminated the lip on many fields. Lacrosse fields were also repaired from the various tournaments that occurred in the past months.

Hand dryers, shelves and other small repairs were made in the parks. The Brundage Park merry-go-round was also recently replaced. “It was actually nice that on saturday when I was over by the theater, to automatically just see people on the merry-go-round again, we put it in and people are using it right away so that’s what we want to see,” said Russell Newman.

Staff recently met with the engineer of water and sewage to discuss a new drainage system for the Brundage Park pond. There have been reports of the pond overflowing onto the trail next to it which caused it to erode and crack, making it a tripping hazard for people.

The committee reports that money was just added into the budget for pot hole repair. Close to $1 million is said to be used which should improve the various designated roads in the area by September.

In future plans,  Kiwanis Park playground is almost complete. The park is waiting for mulch to arrive to open the playground. The park will have its ribbon cutting as well as bench dedication in September.

Future plans about the Randolph Kmart plaza are is discussion. The lease for the Kmart is said to be up in a about a year. The town is not sure what the plans are for the plaza, but they hope to get new tenants in the building in hopes to revitalize it. There are no set plans yet.

The next meeting is set to be held on August 12.
