Randolph, NJ—Forty-eight high school seniors were awarded over 35 scholarships at Randolph High School on Thursday night June 12.

Stationed in the newly built auditorium, the seniors entered to live piano played by RHS music teacher, Matthew Swiss.  After a brief introduction from Charles Dimiceli, head of the guidance department at the high school, representatives from each scholarship fund introduced their award.  Upon the introduction of their award, the representatives then read descriptions about their respective senior recipients.

Among the scholarship winners was Patrick Archer, who won three awards including the James B. Ayers, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, the National Merit Scholarship-Corporate Scholars and the Randolph Kiwanis Scholarship.  Praveen Srinivasan and Sophia Stadler won the National Merit Scholarship-Scholars, for having some of the highest PSAT scores in the entire state of New Jersey.   Senior Nathan Cha, who competed in the prestigious tournament of champions in Kentucky for forensics, was presented the Forensics Parents Booster Scholarship as well.  Carolyn Schuette, who will be attending Northeastern in the fall, was also awarded the Forensics scholarship.

The scholarships, some of which ranged up to 6,000 dollars, were diverse in their criteria, with many being based on artistic and musical achievement, academic achievement, and community service.  Lea Sevola, a scholarship recipient, sang “The Wizard & I” as a part of the musical interlude for the ceremony, which was just under two hours.  The ceremony was preceded with food and refreshments in the commons.

“Thank you everyone,” Charles Dimiceli said to the seniors as the ceremony came to a close.  “You’re something else.  Your stories are inspiring—they have been for four years. What you do, what you accomplished is truly, truly amazing.”
