RANDOLPH, NJ- Randolph High School Boys Varsity Tennis scored a huge second place win at the Morris County Tournament this weekend. Facing some of the top teams in the State, such as Mendham and Mountain Lakes, Randolph rose to the top, finishing with 17 points, behind only Delbarton's 23.
Coach Don Fritch credited the team's success to the fact that four players advanced to the semi-finals. The 2nd place finish was the highest for Randolph since 1996, an achievement Fritch chalked up to "exceptional tennis" marked by "intensity and fire."
First singles player Mitchel Sanders won the 1st singles title by beating reigning Morris County Tournament champion Mike Boyle from Delbarton-6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4. Second doubles players Coby Levine and Stefan Luong fought hard and long to stretch Delbarton's 2nd doubles to 3 sets, only to come up short 5-7 in the third set.
Coach Fritch could not have been more proud. He stated, "I am so proud of my team, they played with heart, desire, and intensity." Summing up the victory and the team's season thusfar, Coach Fritch added, "I have been coaching boys tennis for a long time at Randolph and this season is shaping up to be one of the best group of players I have ever coached, and best of all, I have most of them back again next season."
