Randolph Achieves Success in Annual County Fencing Tournament

RANDOLPH, NJ- Let the fencing commence.  The Randolph boys and girls fencing team captured multiple individual and team honors at The Morris County Fencing Tournament, which was held at Randolph High School on Saturday, Jan 18.

It was the fourth annual county tournament, which follows the district tournaments' squad and individual formats. The tournament boasts over 250 fencers from nine Morris County teams.  The teams who participated in the tournament were:  Butler, Chatham, Mendham, Morris Catholic, Morris Hills, Morris Knolls, Morristown, Randolph and West Morris Central.

This was the third year Randolph hosted according to coach Mitch Dorfman.  He commented "We are very proud to have started the tournament, in response to a need for a county competition."  

The tournament grew this year from 8 teams to 9, and had 270 fencers competing.

Dorfman continued "This tourmanemt differentiates Morris County H.S. Fencing from all others, in that we are the only one to have a County Boys and Girls Championship competition."

Pulling off an event of this size required tremendous planning and coordination.  Dorfman explained "This year's event was a big success, the Randolph volunteers did a bang up job keeping communications, food, and concessions humming along all day.  The team and the coaches are very appreciative of their efforts."

Boys:

Overall team – 2nd

Saber squad – 2nd

Epee Squad – 3rd

Foil Squad – 2nd

Girls:

Overall team – 3rd

Saber squad – 3rd

Foil Squad – 2nd

Individual results:

Girls Foil – 2nd -Julia Mattson 

Girls Saber – 3rd -Maria Fairfield 

Boys Foil – Honorable mention: Elmer Rajah, there was a four way tie after the initial finals pool, and a four way fence off for first

Boys Epee – 2nd -Justin Fiszer, after fence off for first place
