Quaker Steak and Lube Restaurant is officially coming to Montgomery Township. Supervisors Monday night approved the final land development plan for the 6,000-square-foot restaurant.

The restaurant is being built on a 1.5-acre lot of a subdivided 6-acre parcel that also contains a 31,157-square-foot building pad for future retail development.

The site is located in the General Hancock Partnership development in the Expressway Corridor Preservation Overlay District zoning district and sits adjacent to Costco. It is accessible from the Route 202 Parkway and Upper State Road. It will have 21 parking spaces. A rain garden is proposed at the Parkway and Joshua Lane. Outdoor lighting will be off or reduced 50 percent between 10 p.m. and dawn.

"It was originally attached to Costco with 40,000 square feet of retail use," said township Planning and Zoning Director Bruce Shoupe.

Applicant engineer Kirk Clauss said he was "not exactly sure" when his client was opening the restaurant.

"As with everything, there's always financial issues," he said. "I can't answer that exactly. The restaurant pad will happen sooner. There are no tenants identified for the 31,000-square-foot pad."

Quaker Steak and Lube is based out of Sharon, Pennsylvania. The name is a play on "Quaker State" oil.

According to its website, the first restaurant was opened in 1974 in an abandoned gas station. It was a "cook-your-own-steak" place. Its specialties are chicken wings and its seasoned sauces.

A liquor license transfer for the restaurant was approved for Druzak Merchant Development by supervisors in February 2014.  The proposed hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.  The new restaurant will seat about 250 customers and employ about 100 people.
