Presidential Election 2012 Classes at Union County College

This fall Union County College’s Division of Continuing Education will offer an all new presidential series of classes just in time for the November election. These classes are open to the community and are not for credit. Learn many little-known facts about the American presidency and individual presidents not found in textbooks as well as gain a clear understanding of how the electoral process works. After taking these classes students will be able to watch the latest election coverage with a whole new perspective.
A new class, What Do You Really Know about the American Presidents, will outline the administrations of the forty four Presidents of the United States and will also teach some little known information on the men and their private lives. For example, did you know that George Washington spent 7% of his salary on alcohol or that John Tyler had fifteen children, the most of any president? The most important actions of each president will be highlighted. This twelve-hour class meets Saturday mornings from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm from October 20 – November 10 and costs $150
The second class, Demystifying the Electoral College Process, will provide a better understanding of the entire electoral process and because it takes place right after the election, students will be able to evaluate the 2012 Electoral College process results. The professor will trace how the Electoral College process has caused the candidate who did not receive the majority of popular votes to become President at four different times in our history. This four hour class meets twice, on Saturdays from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on December 1 and December 8 and costs $50.
Both classes will be taught by Adjunct Professor of Political Science and History, William Lipkin, who has been teaching for over forty years. During this time he has taught every aspect of American History and American Government, in addition to Western Cultures, International and Comparative Politics, and Contemporary Issues. He has also been listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers.
