WATCHUNG, NJ — New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced Friday that temporary lane closures would immediately take place on Route 22 westbound to repair potholes in North Plainfield and Watchung.
A four-mile stretch of Route 22 westbound from approximately the Blue Star Shopping Center/Terrill Road in Watchung to Rock Avenue in North Plainfield has significant pothole damage and requires priority repair, NJDOT said.
On Saturday, Febr. 22, between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. NJDOT’s contractor, Schiavone Construction, will use hot asphalt to patch the most serious potholes in this area, requiring temporary lane closures of the right and center lanes as necessary.
Next week, the contractor will mill and pave the right and center lanes on this section of Route 22 westbound, working from 6 a.m. through 4 p.m. beginning on Monday, Febr. 24. Work is expected to be completed by Friday, Feb. 28. At least one lane will be maintained during construction, and motorists should expect delays and seek alternate routes.
Eastbound traffic will not be affected by this construction.
The exact timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors, NJDOT said. Check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
