SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ – On Tuesday of last week, Portland Road was closed after a major water main break caused a flood, a sink hole and several flooded basements. After many hours of digging, fixing and back filling, Portland Road was re opened to traffic as of Saturday, August 5th.
According to Peter Eschback, Director of Communications for New Jersey American Water, they are still waiting on results from a lab analysis done on pieces of the ruptured pipe in an effort to clearly identify what caused the major break.
The company will meet with town officials and the mayor in the coming week to look at what happened and everyone will look at what actions can be put in place to prevent future ruptures such as this, according to Scotch Plains Mayor Mary DePaola.
All customers of New Jersey American Water should be back to normal pressure and water restrictions have been lifted.
