Polk Leads Caldwell College Cougars to 96-73 Victory Over Concordia in Men’s Hoops

CALDWELL, N.J. – Junior guard Wyatt Polk (Haddonfield, NJ / Haddonfield) scored a season-high 28 points, as the Caldwell College men’s basketball team cruised to a 96-73 triumph over visiting Concordia College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game Wednesday night in the George R. Newman Center. The Cougars improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in league play with the win, while the Clippers drop to 0-11 overall, 0-5 CACC.
Caldwell struggled to get on track in the first half, as Concordia used a 14-4 run midway through the first half to take a 26-17 lead with 8:28 on the clock. The Cougars still trailed, 37-33 with 3:32 left in the half before scoring the final nine points of the period to take a 42-37 advantage at halftime. Polk scored 10 points in the half, as Caldwell shot 42.1 percent from the floor compared to 47.1 percent for Concordia.
With the Cougars holding a 54-48 lead five minutes into the second half, Polk helped Caldwell take control of the game with 14 points in a definitive 24-6 run that made the score 78-54 with 8:13 to play. Concordia never came closer than 21 points, as the Cougars closed out their seventh win of the season. Caldwell shot 54.3 percent from the field in the second half while limiting the Clippers to 38.9 percent shooting after halftime. The hosts also went to the free throw line 31 times, making 20, and enjoyed a 53-37 rebounding advantage.
Polk made 12-of-20 from the field and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds.
Junior forward Michael Balkovic (Neptune, NJ / St. John Vianney) recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds
Sophomore forward Terik Bridgeman (Harlem, NY / Nia Prep) had 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks
Sophomore Billy McDonald (North Haven, CT / North Haven) netted 12 points and seven rebounds
Dawan Lighty (Paterson, NJ / Kennedy) also scored in double figures by adding 11 points.
Junior guard Kevin Walker (Bayonne, NJ / St. Peter’s Prep) dished out five assists without a turnover
- Norman Pope led the Clippers with 24 points
Caldwell wraps up its non-conference schedule on Sunday, Dec. 22 against Dowling College. The game starts at 3 p.m. in the Newman Center.
