Police Say DVD Salesman is Suspect in Armed Robbery

PATERSON, NJ – Paterson police have identified 37-year-old Wavely McCray, a street corner DVD salesman, as the suspect in an armed robbery Wednesday afternoon in which he allegedly made off with $400.
McCray allegedly approached and greeted the victim, whom he knew through DVD sales, near 131 Manchester Avebue at about 3:50 pm, police said.
McCray then pointed a black handgun to the victim's stomach, went through his pockets and took $400.00, police said. McCray fled up Manchester towards James Street. As a result of the investigation warrants were issued for Wavely McCray for robbery and weapons possession.
Police say McCray also committed an armed robbery using a knife on May 12 at 216 Redwood Avenue. McCray has used numerous aliases in the past such as Greg Bengerman, David Belton and Troy Belton.
Police say he often sells DVDs in Paterson’s downtown area. Authorities warn that McCray has numerous felony convictions and should be considered armed in dangerous.
McCray is five feet, nine inches tall, about 170 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and an African-American with a dark complexion.
