Police Charge Juveniles with Unregistered Scooter, Posession of Brass Knuckles

May 8, 2012: Weapons Offense (Arrest Made). On 5/8/12, officers responded to Maplecrest Park on a report of a subject riding a motorized scooter in the park in violation of Township Ordinance. Officers were able to locate two juveniles as they fled onto Boyden Parkway South. Officers determined that the operator of the scooter was unlicensed, and the scooter was unregistered. Officers also discovered that one of the juveniles was in possession of a pair of brass knuckles, a prohibited weapon. He was subsequently charged by the Youth Aid Bureau and released to his parent.
May 9, 2012: Shoplifting (Arrest Made). On 5/9/12, officers responded to the area of Jacoby Street and Lee Court on a report of a shoplifting from the Quick Chek store located at 1545 Springfield Avenue. Officers located a male, later identified as Anthony Tynes, 53, of Maplewood who admitted to taking (6) packs of chewing gum and a pack of chips. Tynes was positively identified by a store employee and subsequently transported to police headquarters for processing on a shoplifting charge.
May 10, 2012: Motor Vehicle Theft. On 5/10/12, a 44th Street resident reported that her 2011 Honda was stolen with the keys in the vehicle. The victim reported that she had backed her vehicle out of her driveway at approximately 7:00 am and had gone back inside to assist her children. When she returned to the Honda, it was gone. A purse with multiple items of value was also inside the vehicle. At approximately 12 noon, Irvington Police Department recovered the vehicle in their jurisdiction.
May 11, 2012: Theft (Cleared). On 5/11/12, a Kendal Avenue resident reported that two packages that had been delivered to the porch of the home on 4/24/12 had been stolen. One box contained two dresses valued at $461 and the other contained a lighter valued at $34. Detective Smith of the MPD Detective Bureau investigated and determined that the packages had been delivered to the wrong addresse and that a theft had not occurred.
May 12, 2012: Warrant Arrest. On 5/12/12, Officer T. DiMaggio observed a Ford Explorer traveling on Boyden Ave. and noted that the operator was not wearing a seatbelt. Officer DiMaggio conducted a traffic stop, and determined that the vehicle had been uninsured since 2008. A passenger in the vehicle, Dwayne L. Fayton, 44, of Jersey City was determined to be a wanted person out of both Bayonne and Weehawken. Fayton was placed in custody and later turned over to Weehawken Police.
