Plainfield Chamber of Commerce Announces Historic Houses of Worship Tour

The Plainfield Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce our upcoming “Plainfield Houses of Worship Tour, A Historical & Architectural Exploration” on Saturday, May 3, 2014, from 10AM to 4PM.  The tour will cover 226 years of history and architecture in 8 unique houses of worship. They feature elegant Tiffany stained glass windows, massive pipe organs, commanding bell towers and 16th and 17th century artworks and carvings. We have added four new locations that were not included in last years tour. Last years tour had over 150 visitors who came from the surrounding communities and as far away as Baltimore, Philadelphia and the outer reaches of Long Island.

Attendees will begin the tour at Saint Mary's Catholic Church located at 516 West 6th Street, Plainfield. Those wishing to see Saint Mary's will need to do so before 1PM. Guests beginning their tour after 1PM will begin at the nearby Shiloh Baptist Church located at 515 West 4th Street. A map will guide you to the other locations. Tickets are available at participating houses of worship or at the Chamber office. Admission is by free will donation with a $5.00 suggested minimum. The tour will conclude with a reception at the last stop. 

For those who are interested, the Plainfield Symphony will  be hosting a “Magnificient Mahler” Concert at 7PM at the same location as the reception. (Admission is not included in the tour price.) The Plainfield Symphony is the oldest community orchestra in the State and the 3rd oldest in the Country.
