Two Philadelphia men have pleaded guilty for taking part in a drive-by shooting on Wedgewood Drive in Lansdale on Sept. 4, 2011, where an 18-year-old man was shot in the torso by a .22-caliber handgun, according to reports.

John Sambath, 21, of the 1600 block of South 15th Street, was given a five- to 12-year state prison sentence in Montgomery County Court this week, per The Times Herald. Sambath pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault, causing serious bodily injury, per court records.

Sambath admitted to pulling the trigger on the gun that fired seven rounds into the Wedgewood neighborhood shortly after midnight, police said.

Sambath's accomplice in the shooting—Christian Vietri, 22, of the 1200 block of South 11th Street has yet to be sentenced after pleading guilty to felony possession of a firearm without a license and DUI, per court records. Vietri is free on bail.

Police arrived on scene Sept. 4, 2011 and found the victim with a wound to his upper torso, police said. Witnesses said Vietri and Sambath were a group of individuals who got into an argument with residents along the 900 block of Wedgewood Drive, police said.

The two pulled handguns, and Vietri shot twice in the opposite direction, police said. Sambath went to leave the scene, but stopped and fired seven rounds toward the area, police said.

The two fled the area in separate cars, and Vietri was stopped several blocks away. Sambath got away, but was later apprehended thanks to surveillance footage and photographs from security cameras at area businesses, police said.
