Patty Wiszuk-DeAngelo to Conduct Ukrainian Egg Decorating Workshop

ROSELAND, NJ - Award-winning artist Patty Wiszuk-DeAngelo will conduct a workshop on the ancient folk art of creating Ukrainian Pysanky (decorated eggs) on Sunday, March 24, at 1pm at the Roseland Free Public Library. The 3-hour hands-on workshop is for artistically inclined adults and teens ages 12 and up.
According to Wiszuk-DeAngelo’s website, Pysanka are “are an integral and cherished tradition in every Ukrainian household.” The word is derived from the Ukrainian word pysaty, meaning "to write.

The designs are written or drawn on an egg with melted beeswax using an instrument known as a kystka.

Effie Janulis, at the library commented, “We are offering a new and exciting workshop, from 1 to 4! Participants will learn division of the egg, drawing designs, use of a "kitska" or wax pen for wax resist techniques, dyeing, egg drilling, as well as wax removal and other finishing methods. The workshop is limited to 20 participants, so pre-registration is a must!“
