PATERSON, NJ - A 34-year-old man who was shot in the 4th Ward last month died of his wounds on Saturday, becoming Paterson's 11th murder victim of the year, authorities announced.

The victim was identified as Gary Green, of E. 25th Street. Green was shot along with another man, a 31-year-old Dale Avenue resident, on June 18 near the corner of 10th Avenue and E. 27th Street.

Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation that took place in the area earlier in the night. Green was shot as he attempted to flee from the shooting on foot and at this time detectives do not believe that he was involved in the initial dispute, according to Sgt. Patrick Murray of Paterson's Cease Fire unit.

The second victim has since recovered from his injuries and has been released from the hospital, police said.

Detectives are continuing their investigation at this time. Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detective Edgar Taylor or Detective Mark Peterson (Passaic County Pros. Office) at the Paterson Police Cease Fire Unit ( 973-321-1342) or contact the Paterson Police confidential tips line at 973-523-TIPS.
