PATERSON, N.J. – A Paterson man has been arrested and charged with several weapons-related offenses following an incident with police detectives last weekend.

David Talmadge, a 21-year-old local resident, was taken into custody by detectives from the city’s Ceasefire and Narcotics Units on Saturday, June 21 at North Main and Jefferson Street, according to a press release from Paterson Detective Lieutenant Patrick Murray

Detectives witnessed a large amount of males in the area of the arrest in Paterson’s 1st Ward. As they exited their vehicle, the detectives observed a male within the group “attempt to adjust a handgun which he had secured in his waistband area.”

The detectives immediately stopped and disarmed the man, finding the weapon to be a .40 caliber handgun equipped with hollow-point ammunition.

Talmadge was arrested at the scene without further incident and transferred to headquarters for processing.

The suspect has since been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Stolen Property
Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons and Possession of Illegal Ammunition.

Talmadge is currently being held in the city lockup awaiting an initial hearing and the setting of bail. Upon further investigation, the weapon was found to have been previously reported stolen.
