Paterson Had NJ's Largest Tax Increase in 2011

PATERSON, NJ – Paterson taxpayers knew 2011 was a bad year. But it was worse than many of them could have imagined.
Paterson had the highest percentage property tax increase among New Jersey municipalities with more than 250 residents, according to a story on daily record.com.
The story said Paterson property taxes increased by 17.3 percent to $8,829 for an average house. Those figures took into account taxes for the school district and county. Property taxes for city government alone rose by a whopping 29 percent.
This year, the preliminary city budget includes a five percent tax increase and inaddition to that homeowners will have to pay an average of $280 extra to cover the revenue loss to successful tax appeals last year.
