PATERSON, NJ - City public works crews finished plowing most of Paterson's main roads by Saturday morning and had turned their sights on secondary roads and municipal facilities, according to municipal officials.

"The main roads are all done,'' said Public Works Director Christopher Coke. "Hills and things like that - we're working on getting those cleaned up.''

"I'm been out on the roads surveying the 6th Ward and things look pretty good,'' said Councilman Andre Sayegh, chairman of the public works committee.

Officials said Paterson got between eight and 10 inches. The city's police and fire departments said the storm did not cause any major incidents in Paterson.

NJ Transit on Saturday resumed all bus and rail service. City school events over the weekend are canceled.

Coke asked Patersonians not to shovel snow from their property out onto the streets. "We're trying to get the streets clean and we're asking people to work with us.''

The city has an inspector patrolling Paterson looking for folks dumping snow on the streets, Coke said. In the past, some city businesses have received summons for pushing snow from their parking lots onto roads, he said. The fine is $500, according to Coke.
