Parks and Rec Seeks HS Student Rep
Tuesday, March 4, 2014 • 10:39am
Do you know a high school student interested in the inner-workings of the Parks and Recreation Department in municipal government? The Lower Providence Township Parks and Recreaction Department (LPTP&R) has a great opportunity to give him or her a real inside look.
Applications are currently being accepted for the LPTP&R Student Representative. Any high school student that lives within Lower Providence Township is eligible.
The role will begin in September 2014.
“[The student representative] will participate at meetings and assist with special events,” explained Karl A. Lukens, director of LPTP&R. “[He or she] will help with parking, event set-up, work at the LPTP&R tables, provide information to residents.”
The student will also attend the monthly meetings of the department. The program is designed to teach the student, in a hands-on way, how the department helps those living in the municipality. Those that may want to work in municipal government can benefit greatly from the experience of the volunteer role.
“Since I have been the director, there are three former Student Reps: Matt Jones, Megan Stauffer and Sean O’Neill,” said Luken. “[The role] gives them experience of participating on a board and shows the inner working of how a parks and recreation department works.”
The LPTP&R meets each second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the township’s Administration Building, located at 100 Parklane Drive, Eagleville.
Luken said there are no other requirements to qualify for the role.
“Just be a high school student that lives in Lower Providence Township,” he said. “They leave the board the August after they graduate since the board does not meet in July.”
To apply for the student rep role, which can be filled by a Methacton High School student of any grade level that lives within the township, simply send in a resume and letter of interest.
Applications may be sent to 100 Parklane Drive, Eagleville, PA 19403 or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also reach the department with any questions at 610-635-3543.
