Senator Steve Oroho, Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose and Assemblyman Gary Chiusano, R-24, announced today they were recognized as “Defenders of Liberty” by the American Conservative Union (ACU).

“Standing up for taxpayers and traditional values in New Jersey is a top priority for Alison, Gary, and me,” said Oroho, who serves on the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.  “We are continuing our mission to make New Jersey more competitive to bring in new businesses and private sector jobs and it starts with making sure our tax policies are attractive.”

ACU announced its inaugural ACU Ratings of the New Jersey State Legislature honoring the Garden State’s true conservatives. The nation’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization began a new initiative to expand the highly touted ACU Congressional Ratings program to state legislatures, grading members on their votes on key conservative issues. The winners of the “Defender of Liberty” award was given to those members of the New Jersey State Legislature who were present and cast a vote for each adjudicated roll call and scored 100 percent.

“The American Conservative Union has long been known across the country as the leading voice of the conservative movement and we are honored they have recognized our work to lower the cost of government and create a stable environment for businesses that want to grow here and families to raise their children here,” said McHose. “Our approach, which is working, stands in stark contrast to the massive increases in taxes and spending under Democrat leadership that drove businesses and jobs from the Garden State in the last decade.”

“In the last decade, the Democrat majorities in the legislature raised taxes and fees 120 times and increased State spending to generate more social engineering programs,” said Chiusano, a member of the Assembly Budget Committee.  “This same tired old fiscal policy has left our state broke and so overwhelmed with taxes and debt that people and businesses alike have been forced to move out of state.  We’re beginning to change that and Steve, Alison and I are appreciative that a light is being shed on who is standing up for beleaguered taxpayers.”
