WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Holy Trinity-West Orange Pantry got a big surprise on May 10, when the Orange Post Office advised them that they would receive the proceeds of their "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive.

On May 10, letter carriers across the United States collected non-perishable items to be delivered to local food banks and pantries. This is the first time that the Orange Post Office chose to give the West Orange Food Pantry their donations. The pantry serves all of West Orange and areas of Orange. The OPO serves the townships of Orange and West Orange and all donations were collected in those towns.

Emmanuel "Baba" Sackey, who spearheads the 'Adopt-A-Village' effort in West Orange that supports his home village in Ghana with supplies, support, and education, is also a mail carrier with the Orange Post Office. It was through his efforts that the post office was connected with the food pantry.

"It doesn't matter what you do if people are hungry," said Baba. "This is a basic component of Christianity, and we must help people". Sackey recently shipped a container of supplies to Ghana and will be traveling to his hometown with several volunteers at the end of the month.

Baba, along with Food Pantry Administrator Cynthia Cumming, picked up at least 100 bags of food at the Orange Post Office after thanking Postmaster Virginia Garrett and staff.

"We are so surprised and grateful," said Cumming. "Supplies usually dwindle as we head into summer, and this is so incredible".
