Open House for Intergenerational Orchestra
Tuesday, September 4, 2012 • 5:30pm
The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra is looking for musicians of any age who would enjoy playing in an orchestra to attend an Open House rehearsal on Thursday, September 13th or Thursday, September 20th at the Judith G. Wharton Music Center in Berkeley Heights. Bring your instrument and test drive any of our orchestras; find the one that suits your comfort level, from beginner to experienced. Our outstanding conductors allow you to join in the fun of playing in an orchestra in a friendly, non-intimidating way.
Beginning string players are invited to join our Prelude ensemble, which will have its open house rehearsal from 4:30-5:30 pm, intermediate string players are invited to try our Intermezzo String Orchestra from 5:45–7 pm, and more advanced players on all symphonic instruments can participate with the Symphony Orchestra from 7:15 till 9:30 pm. Our three ensembles allow string players to transition from ensemble to ensemble as they develop from beginner to advanced players.
The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra (NJIO) is a unique program that consists of members of all skill levels from ages 6–86, striving for high artistic excellence in a non-competitive but strongly educational environment. Playing with an orchestra is a richly rewarding experience that bolsters a player’s musicality and adds a new element of fun to the relationship between instrument and musician. NJIO has been providing that experience to musicians of all ages for over 18 years.
All rehearsals are held at the Judith G. Wharton Music Center, 60 Locust Avenue, Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922. Call Mary Beth at 908-603-7691 or email mbsweet@njio.org for more information, or go to our website at www.njio.org
