ROSELLE/ROSELLE PARK, NJ - The Raritan Valley Rail Coalition's ”One Seat Ride” train made its first run today.
Union County Freeholder Chairman Christopher Hudak and Freeholders Bette Jane Kowalski and Bruce Bergen were at the Cranford Station when the first NJ TRANSIT train offering “one-seat” direct rail service to Penn Station in New York City arrived Monday morning. The service on the Raritan Valley Line includes stops in the Union County municipalities of Plainfield, Fanwood, Westfield, Garwood, Cranford, Roselle Park and Union.

It was snowy, and many were afraid it might not happen today, but members of the the coalition, local town mayors and commuters took the ride into NYC. Roselle Park Mayor Joe Accardi made the trip along with mayors from Cranford, Westfield and Plainfield. Mayor Accardi said. “It is a great day for Roselle Park and Roselle and thanks to everyone who made it happen over the last 20 years.”

This is NJT’s Phase I of the Raritan Valley Rail Collations “One Seat Ride” train. The next step is evening and weekend trains, and the final step, they hope, will be peak hour trains. The desirability of a community like Roselle Park, as an early stop on the line, should serve to increase property values. It is a very important first step that many people worked toward for many years.
There were other Mayors along the way that jumped on and off at different stops to share the experience and show their support.
