Today seven of Hartshorn’s Elementary School’s students met with Tim Gordon, Business Administrator, Martha Annoni, Assistant Engineer, Tom Doty, Town Forester, and the town’s Fire Chief. All of these great administrators took time out of their busy day to meet with these individuals to assist with answering questions, for these young bright students’ project. The theme of this year’s Lego Robotics challenge is “Nature’s Fury” and these 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Hartshorn’s Elementary School have chosen to focus their project on Millburn Township Hurricanes.
The administrators welcomed the students for a question and answer appointment in the town hall board room, and allowed the children to sit in the town council member’s chairs. The children sat and took their notes diligently during the hour long discussion. The topic of the questioning was directed at information about the past hurricanes, future preparation, and local concerns. The kids wanted to know what were some unresolved issues the district faced with regard to hurricanes in the past. One child even asked, “Do you think you made mistakes?”. The information was honest, forthcoming, abundant, and so helpful for the children to formulate their project design and competition presentation.
The time, patience, consideration, thoughtfulness, and wise answers these district professionals provided just gives me faith that we are in good hands for come what may this hurricane season. And of course, the future looks bright for these talented young minds. Let’s see what they come up with for their first Lego Robotic Challenge in November! As a mother (of one of the seven students), former educator, and now local realtor, I can’t say enough how Millburn Township is such a great place to live!
