SUMMIT, NJ - The musical sounds of Jamaica will fill Reeves-Reed Arboretum (RRA) August 20, as the Sounds of a Summer Night Concert Series presents MASSIVE reggae band.

Based in Morristown, MASSIVE specializes in reggae idioms and selections from artists like Bob Marley, Toots and the Maytails, Sublime, Peter Tosh, as well as many others. They also re-make new songs from artists like Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga, but with a sultry reggae twist.  Their music is continuous, the vibes infectious, with dancing and good times the norm.

Reggae is a music genre first developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s.  Stylistically, reggae is a melting pot embracing influences from Africa, Latin America, Europe, and the United States, combining elements of American jazz and rhythm and blues, with ska, rocksteady, and calypso.

As well as giving the world a fresh new sound, reggae was instrumental in highlighting the Rastafarian movement, dealing with subjects such as faith, love, relationships, poverty, injustice, and other broad social issues.

All Sounds of A Summer Night concerts are on Wednesday evenings, and begin with the Arboretum grounds opening at 6 p.m. for concert goers to picnic.  The performances are from 7 - 8 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets, and the cost is free to RRA members, courtesy of underwriting support from Investors Bank.  There is a $10 donation at the door for non-members, with student admitted for $5 with a valid ID.  The MASSIVE Reggae Concert is dedicated to Reeves-Reed Arboretum supporter, Full Service Aquatics.

Sounds of A Summer Night is sponsored, in part, by Nick & Tracy McKee, the Grand Summit Hotel, and the Summit Area Public Foundation.  For more information, visit reeves-reedarboretum.org, or call 908 / 273-8787.
