WESTFIELD, NJ -- One firefighter was injured by a fire that quickly traveled through the second and third floors of a home on Hanford Place May 15, according to Chief Daniel Kelly of the Westfield Fire Department.

"One firefighter was transported to Overlook Hospital," said Kelly, adding that the firefighter was being evaluated at the hospital for minor smoke inhalation injuries sustained while fighting the blaze inside the home at 714 Hanford Place.

Several painters working in the home as well as the family dog were present at the time the blaze started but were uninjured, according to  Kelly.

The second alarm fire was contained and extinguished in roughly 45 minutes and required help from neighboring Cranford, Roselle and Plainfield fire departments, according to  Kelly.

The fire caused damage to the second and third floors of the single family home and the cause was still under investigation, according to  Kelly.

No other homes were affected by the fire and no evacuations were necessary in neighboring homes, according to Kelly, but the quiet residential street was closed off by police and fire vehicles that lined the street from end to end.
