EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - Visit the East Brunswick Public Library this month for two displays. Dr. Lawrence Hogan’s memorabilia from Negro League Baseball tells the story of the tenacity and groundbreaking achievements of its players, while Nancy Scott’s carefully crafted collages tell individual stories of “memory and history, people and place.”
On Display: Negro League Baseball in New Jersey and America.
This exhibit and program are made possible by a Humanities Festival grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, and is co-sponsored by The Friends of the Library.
View memorabilia from New Jersey’s unique place in the history of black professional baseball in America, including items from the Cuban Giants of Trenton, the Bacharachs of Atlantic City, the legendary Newark Eagles and Jackie Robinson’s re-integration of professional baseball in 1946 in Jersey City.
On Exhibit: Collage Art by Nancy Scott
Sponsored by the Arts Commission.
Artist and poet Nancy Scott is intrigued with “shaping images…with paper, fabric, paint, ink and found objects.” In both her writing and her art she likes to use “memory and history, people and place,” as inspiration. Her collages tell a story, either figuratively or literally.
The library is creating a file of potential exhibits and displays. The goal is to present an eclectic sampling of local artists (in all media) and intriguing exhibits of broad interest. If you have artwork, a collection or other display items you’d like to propose for future exhibits, please email firstname.lastname@example.org requesting exhibit proposal information. All exhibits are for one calendar month.
