PATERSON, NJ - A police officer who had just finished his work shift on Sunday alertly spotted a man who matched the description of a robbery suspect and made the arrest, authorities said.
Officer Jose Valentin was off-duty when he was driving near the corner of Main and Grand streets at about 6 pm and saw the suspect in a chain-snatching that had happened earlier in the day.
Valentin arrested 20-year-old Eric Cummings of Mill Street on robbery charges, according to Lt. Richard Reyes. Police say Cummings had snatched a chain from a 23-year-old woman, knocking her to the ground near 301 Main Street at about 4:20 pm that day.
