Downtown Westfield was named a "Great Place in New Jersey for 2013" by the American Planning Association-New Jersey Chapter APA-NJ. Great Places in New Jersey recognizes unique and exemplary downtowns, streets, neighborhoods and public spaces--four essential components of exceptional communities. Downtown Westfield Corporation was recognized in the program's Great Downtown category for 2013.
"We are thrilled with the affirmation that Downtown Westfield is a great place to live and work, and thank the APA-NJ for this distinct honor," stated Sherry Cronin, Executive Director, Downtown Westfield Corporation. "Since our historic downtown was developed in the late 1880's, it has always been the center of our community. Westfield, New Jersey was the recipient of the Great American Main Street Award for the year 2004 and also the recipient of The America in Bloom Award in 2010."
"Partnerships are essential to the success of any downtown; Westfield's downtown management agency, the Downtown Westfield Corporations, works with the property owners, tenants, town government, and volunteer groups to ensure the downtown remains vibrant," said APA-NJ President Charles Latini, Jr. AICP.
Recently, the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders posted a Resolution acknowledging and commending the Downtown Westfield Corporation of Westfield for their support and commitment as a Volunteer Worksite Member of the Union County Community Service Youth Offender Program.
The Downtown Westfield Corporation has been a member agency of the Union County Community Service, Youth Offender Program since 2008. The Board of Chosen Freeholders of Union County acknowledge and commend the Downtown Westfield Corporation for their commitment to volunteerism, and the goals of the Union County Community Service Youth Offender Program," said Freeholder Vernell Wright.
Not only is the Downtown Westfield Corporation recognized by external organizations for their work thoughout the State of New Jersey, they have recently completed their sixth Girl's Night Out Event. Held twice a year, in the Spring and Fall season, more than 2,500 ladies registered for the event.
Westfield resident, Pam Kelly was thrilled with the evening. "Once again, the town of Westfield provided a wonderful evening of socialization, great food, and a night out in our town!"
