WEST ORANGE, NJ - There's a new family-friendly, pub-style restaurant coming to West Orange sometime in September. Located at 440 Main St., the former location of Gaffer's Pub, the OAK Barrel Pub is looking to provide the community with a traditional American fare menu with everything from a children's menu, lunch and dinner specials, and late night snacks.
The OAK Barrel is named after its three proprietors. The O is Chris O’Connell, a former employee of Gaffer’s Pub with a long family lineage in West Orange. The A is for Frank Attamante, who also worked at Gaffer’s for over twenty years. The K is for Bill Kehoe, well-known in West Orange as director of the Recreation Department. All three have a commitment to provide the West Orange community with a great place to go, socialize, and enjoy some good food.
For the past three months renovation work has progressed steadily and patrons will note many major changes in design and decor. The old signature rugs in the dining room and bar area have been replaced with new hardwood flooring. The old bar was removed and the main bar from Pal's Cabin was installed in its place. All the tables, booths, chairs and stools are new and the interior repainted. The canopy out front will be replaced in the near future. In the dining room, dozens of historical lithographs and photos depicting the history of West Orange will adorn the walls.
Well aware of the impact that Gaffer's had in the community, the OAK will preserve its family-friendly, pub-style tradition and patrons will see many of the old familiar faces back to work. According to Attamante, ”We are fixing everything that was broken and doing it right... one thing that doesn’t need fixing is what this place has and will remain to be – a cozy West Orange landmark.”
A Facebook page will be launched shortly.
