NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Below is an edited version of the North Plainfield Police Report issued on March 27, 2014.  It is our policy at The Alternative Press of North Plainfield and Green Brook to redact names and addresses of people who have been arrested but not convicted.  While we see value in releasing information regarding safety and police activity in our communities, we do not want to report names and addresses until a conviction is obtained.

WHEN: Wednesday March 26, 2014 6:58 p.m.
WHERE: Costco, 1290 Route 22 East, North Plainfield NJ
ARRESTEE’S HOMETOWN: Bridgewater, NJ
CHARGE: Shoplifting
DETAILS: On the above date and time a shoplifting at Costco was reported.  [Named] was arrested for shoplifting saffron valued at $13.59. [Named] was transported to HQ where he was processed and released with a summons for shoplifting N.J.S. 2C:20-1B(1).
ARRESTING OFFICER: P.O. James Garafalo Badge # 0154

WHEN: Wednesday March 26, 2014 4 p.m.
WHERE: 131 Netherwood Avenue
ARRESTEE’S HOMETOWN: No arrests made
CHARGE: Burglary
DETAILS: A neighbor on Mali Drive saw three Hispanic males attempting to break into the rear of 131 Netherwood Avenue. When the neighbor yelled at the suspect, all three fled the area running south towards Plainfield.  During a search of the area none of the suspects were located.  The residence at 131 Netherwood Ave. appeared to be secure during a premises check.

WHEN: Tuesday, March 25 2014 2:48 p.m.
WHERE: Villa Maria, 641 Somerset Street
ARRESTEE’S HOMETOWN: No arrest made
CHARGE: Burglary
DETAILS: On Tuesday March 25, 2014 at approximately 1447 the groundskeeper, Sissoko Lassan, of Villa Maria found one of the buildings broken into.  Mr. Lassan, who lives on the property, stated that the priests house, which is the building he lives in, was broken into and vandalized while he was out running errands.  At this time Mr. Lassan does not know if anything was taken.
