SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The North Plainfield Canucks scored the only points of the second half, and defensive back Stefaun Harris forced a game saving fumble to lead North Plainfield to a dramatic 14-12 victory over South Plainfield.  The victory is the 12th year in a row North Plainfield has defeated South Plainfield on Thanksgiving Day, and it extends North Plainfield's overall series lead to 26-14-1.

South Plainfield drew first blood in the rivalry game when Roemello Monroe broke off a 69-yard touchdown run less than one minute into the game.  The kick failed and South Plainfield took a 6-0 lead.  North Plainfield would respond less than two minutes later when Quarterback Kyle Grant ran 41 yards to knot the game 6-6.

After North Plainfield’s score, South Plainfield responded with a 13-play seven-minute drive capped off with a nine yard touchdown pass from Kyle Moroney to Kyle Dickerson.  The two-point conversion would fail, and this would be the difference in the game.

North Plainfield would take the opening kick of the second half and drive 56 yards and score on a Glen Benson nine yard run.  North Plainfield would get the two point conversion to take a 14-12 lead.

The score remained 14-12 when Kyle Moroney connected with Johnny Chillemi on what appeared to be a go-ahead 81 yard touchdown pass.  North Plainfield Canuck’s defensive back Stefaun Harris had other ideas.  Harris would race the length of the field and strip the ball from Chillemi on the two yard line.  The Canucks would recover the football in their end zone for a touchback.  The dramatic turn of events had both sides cheering and groaning with just about four minutes left in the game.

South Plainfield would force a turnover, but North Plainfield’s defense would preserve a Canucks victory.  The Canucks would run the clock out as 2,000 fans cheered in the cold at another North Plainfield Thanksgiving Day victory.
