WEST ORANGE, NJ - Innovative Music is alive and well in New Jersey, and one of newest up and coming groups, A Bunch of Animals, wants to prove it to you.
A Bunch of Animals was founded in August of 2012 by a group of local North Jerseysans: Guitarist Kevin Reyes, Guitarist/Vocalist Miguel Morales, Drummer/vocalist Bryan Manzali, and Bassist Neil Thomas. After recruiting their lead singer from upstate New York, Chris Tirado, the group, which pays homage to various musical genres like, metal, hardcore, and psychedelic, are on their way to releasing their first EP.
For the uninformed, an EP, according to Wikipedia, is "a musical recording that contains more music than a single, but is too short to qualify as a full length studio album or LP. The term EP originally referred to specific types of vinyl records other than 78 rpm standard play (SP) records and LP records but it is now applied to mid-length compact discs and downloads as well. EPs have long been popular with punk and indie bands."
Wanting to set themselves apart with their creativity, guitairist Miguel Morales feels that “the best part is we’re creative and we don’t stick to just one genre. There is something for everyone.” Some of their influences inclue: Chiodos, Circa Survive, Avenged Sevenfold, and Pierce The Veil.
The band’s name holds its own creative twist. After debating on the name “A Bunch of Animals” the group felt “it could be fun for the band and the fans” planning on utilizing wordplay and humor their advantage in the future as a way to get fans involved and excited.
Despite being the newest member to the group, singer Chris Tirado describes the members as being a “perfect fit” saying, “we all had similar interests and similar influences… It ended up being a perfect fit. We all had a perfect vision of what we wanted to bring to the rock scene.”
While A Bunch of Animals currently continues rehearsals, not planning many shows until following the debut of their EP in the next month, they are definitely a group to keep an eye out for. What they are bringing to the music scene is definitely fresh, new, and exciting. They want fans to “expect the unexpected” as they experiment and find a way to bring forward so many combinations of the most popular rock genres.
