SUMMIT, NJ - Playing on consecutive nights against a game, but over matched, Arthur L. Johnson squad, the Summit Varsity Basketball team fought through tired legs and a slew of missed free throws, easing to a 44-16 win.

Matt Fischetti led Summit with 10 points, in a game that was delayed nearly 20 minutes by a fire alarm malfunction that occurred with 5:16 to go in the first quarter, with the game tied at two points apiece.

After the delay, the game sluggishly resumed, and Summit was the only team that scored in the remainder of the first quarter, which ended with the Hilltoppers leading 6-2.  It didn't get much better in the second frame for the Crusaders, as the they didn't score their next basket until just over four minutes were left in the half.  Entering the break, Summit led 19-9, despite having center Robbie Walsh on the bench for much of it, due to the senior captain getting called for two questionable fouls.

Walsh was barely needed in the second half, as Summit outscored Johnson 25-7, mostly on close-in baskets and hustle points that resulted from Johnson turnovers.  The final score would have been even much more lopsided, but the Hilltoppers missed a majority of their free throws,

"We didn't have our legs tonight, but give Johnson credit for playing hard and making us work," said Summit Head Coach Jim Davidson.  "We tried some different combinations, and it took us a while to get going, but the good news is that we kept working, and worked our way through it."

Next up for Summit is a tough road test against Hillside January 14.  The Hilltoppers next home game is January 17 versus Roselle Park at 7 p.m.

In earlier action, the JV beat Johnson 53-34, behind 10 points from Liam Lawler and 8 points from Jaden Jackson,  The Freshman Team also won, beating the Crusaders 50-21.
