NJ American Water Works on Midway and Farley

FANWOOD, NJ – New Jersey American Water is continuing work on the project to replace 16 feet of 48-inch pipe on Midway Avenue at the corner of Farley Avenue. Farley Avenue is closed to all traffic and Midway has alternating traffic patterns.
Due to the need to complete the project quickly, replacement of the 48-inch water main means that the New Jersey American Water contractors will be operating 24 hours a day for the duration of the project.
In a written statement New Jersey American Water apologized in advance “for any inconvenience caused by the lights and noise related to installing the new piping. Please know our contractor will work to complete this important project as quickly as possible.”
The pipe being replaced is similar to the one that ruptured in Scotch Plains last summer, causing major flooding and damage to homes and property. It is being replaced as a preventative measure.
While disruption to water service is not anticipated, residents may experience slight discoloration to their water supply. If this occurs, simply run the water until it runs clear. If the problem persists, call New Jersey American Water on 1-800-652-6987.
The project is scheduled to be completed on February 8, when temporary road repairs will be made and traffic patterns will be restored. The permanent repair to the roads will be completed in the Spring.
