CHATHAM, NJ - A ninth-grade Chatham High School student reported suspicious activity from the driver of a white pickup on Main Street.

On Saturday, May 3 at approximately 3:25 p.m., the Chatham Borough Police Department received a report of suspicious activity that occurred on Main Street in the area of Washington Avenue. A student from Chatham High School reported that she was walking east on Main Street when an older model white pickup truck passed her traveling west bound.

The driver of this vehicle was described as a Hispanic male between 30-40 years of age, honked his horn at her twice. The vehicle then turned around on Main Street and proceeded east bound and then turned onto Washington Avenue. The driver then slapped the side of his truck to get her attention and motioned with his hand for her to come towards him.

The victim ignored the male, proceeded home and the family notified the police department. The police department conducted a thorough investigation, searched the area and notified all surrounding police agencies.  However, no vehicle or person fitting the description was located.

In addition to making residents aware of this incident, we want to remind and encourage everyone to report any suspicious incidents to the police department without delay. For emergencies dial 911 and for non-emergencies dial (973) 635-8000.

Report prepared by Kevin O'Shea of the Chatham Borough Police Department
