RARITAN, NJ - An update in June from the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition indicated that evening off peak weekday service for one-stop on the Raritan Valley line is scheduled to begin with the November 2014 fall rail schedule change.

The exact start date has not been determined because of maintenance work being done by Amtrak on the tracks in Penn Station New York on weekday evenings. Once this is determined, NJ Transit will be able to determine how many evening trains leaving Penn Station in New York will be one seat ride trains.

One seat ride service, off peak and mid-day, began in March.

NJ Transit reported in June that there has been increase of 120 passenger trips, or 60 additional person round trips, on the Raritan Valley Line in the four to five weeks prior to the report.

From April through May 23, there was a slow increase in ridership on the Raritan Valley Line one seat rides, which was above NJ Transit projections. Statistics found that there has been an increase in Raritan Valley line tickets to Manhattan, and a decline in sales to Newark Penn Station.

After the weekday evening one seat rides begin, the next goal is for weekend one seat ride service for the entire line, followed by two trains in peak hours in the morning and evening.

There is no scheduled date for those final two steps to be ready.
